"In mining, everyone is planning on increasing their manpower."

Roy Grant has fifteen years experience working in the mining industry: seven years in hard rock and eight years in coal mining. He has lived in Campbell River for twenty years, has been a real estate agent for seventeen years and is now into his second, three-year term on City Council. He has a broad background in the mining industry and offers a different perspective from that of a labourer or equipment operator.

His enthusiasm for mining was evident in our interview and he seems genuinely excited about the positive turn the industry is presently experiencing.

Roy's Story

“My mining story started just after I finished college because I had chosen to take mineral exploration in a technical college. I never expected to get into mining because mineral exploration and mining are not really that closely related, except that the exploration is really the beginning of the whole process. I was involved in prospecting while I attended college; in fact, as a prospector I staked claims for the company I worked for in the Yukon. We were looking for copper, gold, asbestos and the rest of the minerals that were the flavour of the day.
