"Divers got a thrill out of that, they would say that they had dove to the lowest point below sea level but all they had really done was stand in an inch of water." |

| When we finally managed to reach John he was so excited about our project he immediately began packing up Island Copper to bring to us. Wow, what a trip back in time! He had so many photos, the company’s first logo, and videos made right at the mine site. We really got a sense of how proud John was to be a part of Island Copper. John came from England as a steel machine tool fitter. |

I started out as a millwright there on August 4, 1971. I was the fourth employee for the mill. The pit started January 12, 1971. The mill didn’t start till November because they had to take off the top burden. I also was the expediter, then senior buyer and after the mine was closed I disposed of the assets. My last day at the mine was December 31, 2000. I grew up in Holberg and went to England to do my
apprenticeship. When I came back they were hiring at the mine, so
I applied and got in. By trade I am a millwright. After I came back
from England I was a machine tool fitter which is the equivalent to
a millwright here. The longer you stay in the company the more you
can move around and go different places. I ended up as the senior
purchaser for both milling and electrical. |
