Back in the 1950’s, there was a little iron ore mine called the Argonaut. It was not around very long but does not mean it has been forgotten - at least not by the guys who worked it. During the course of research for this project, the Mosaic of Mining Memories team dug up names of men who worked there back in the good ole days. We had the chance to sit down with two fellows; Angus Krug and Bob Jordan. Oh the stories that came out of their interview. A week or two of phone tag later we were able to set up a meeting with six of the guys who worked at the Argonaut. We had visions of a nice orderly question and answer session that would glean some much needed information about a mine that not many people paid much attention to. After a quick call from Renner Hamilton we found out how to get to the Argonaut, if you drive out on the Elk River Logging Road, the old mine site is twenty-eight miles from Campbell River. |
